Job description
Senior PMO Manager (33552) -
Senior PMO Manager
Permanent, Full-time
Hybrid role based out of Bristol, London, or Manchester
Bupa Dental Care is at the start of a bold transformation journey — and we’re looking for someone who’s excited by the challenge of building, leading, and delivering high-impact change.
As Senior PMO Manager, you’ll play a key role in shaping how we transform as a business. If you’re a strategic thinker who thrives in ambiguity and wants to help create lasting value for our people and our patients, we’d love to hear from you.
This role is responsible for overseeing Bupa Dental Care’s strategic transformation portfolio — setting the project management framework and ensuring alignment with our broader business goals. You’ll lead on governance, support delivery teams, and make sure projects land on time, on budget, and with the right impact. From resource planning to risk management, your work will help drive meaningful progress across the organisation.
The Senior PMO Manager will be responsible for:
- Project Governance: Establish and maintain project management standards and ensure governance approvals, including board submissions, are followed.
- Strategic Alignment: Ensure projects align with BDC’s strategy and regularly review priorities, investments, and resources.
- Performance Monitoring: Track timelines, budgets, and resources. Deliver clear, concise updates for Senior Leaders and business owners.
- Design and Deliver a PMO framework: Develop BDC’s PMO and Transformation maturity by embedding frameworks, processes, roles, and committees.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain project documentation and produce regular senior management reports.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks. Collaborate with Risk Management to implement effective risk processes and controls.
- Resource Allocation: Manage resource allocation to optimise efficiency, capacity, and workforce planning in a constrained environment.
- Financial Analysis: Work with Finance to manage project budgets, forecast costs, and track financial performance.
- Project Support: Coach and guide project teams to remove blockers and ensure smooth, timely delivery.
- Stakeholder Communication: Facilitate communication across teams and senior leaders, confidently challenging and mentoring as needed.
- Training and Development: Deliver training and coaching to upskill teams and increase project delivery autonomy.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead improvements in project management tools and processes.
- BUPA Group: Monitor wider Market Unit and Central projects affecting BDC’s portfolio.
- Build, Lead, Develop: Recruit, train, and motivate a growing team of Portfolio analysts with clear objectives and KPIs.
What do I need?
- Bachelor’s degree desirable but not required.
- Formal project management qualifications (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, Agile Certified Practitioner).
- Demonstratable experience in an in-house PMO function.
- Experience in consumer-centric, fast-paced businesses (dental care, healthcare, retail, FMCG).
- Proven experience managing portfolios with 15+ projects, establishing governance, structure, processes, and driving accountability.
- Skilled at simplifying complex analysis and processes for business users.
- Experienced in building dashboards, slide decks, and clear, concise summaries.
- Led cross-functional PMOs across commercial, operations, HR, technology, and finance projects.
- Deep understanding of large-scale change programmes and project interdependencies.
- Strong grasp of budgeting, business case lifecycle, project and resource management.
- Desired: Experience building transformation capability and structure from the ground up.
- Advanced user of project tools and systems (Power BI, Excel, Smartsheet, or similar).
About You
- Strong communicator and influencer with gravitas; excels in ambiguity, motivating teams in fast-paced, pressured environments.
- Strategic, detail-oriented thinker; trusted advisor to executives and passionate PMO ambassador.
- Collaborative team player, builds diverse relationships, drives high performance and quality.
- Results-driven with commercial acumen; comfortable with financial data and agile in dynamic settings; curious and growth-focused.
