Field Infrastructure Engineer
Permanent, Full-time
This is a field-based position. We are recruiting four roles and are open to candidates based in the North, Central or South of the UK. Regular travel and overnight stays will be required.
The Role
The Field Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for maintaining and supporting the development of Bupa’s infrastructure to ensure the stable operation of IT systems and delivery of IT services.
The Field Infrastructure Team manages the full lifecycle of physical technology assets, including servers, end-user devices, network and telecoms hardware, clinical and medical devices, digital imaging systems, site technology, and associated power and cooling infrastructure. The team supports new site onboarding, decommissioning of legacy sites, IMAC activity, and expansion projects, working to agreed SLAs.
The role provides 3rd/4th line BAU support, escalations from IT Service Management, and project deployment support, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable, secure infrastructure across UK sites and coordinating remote support for non-UK locations.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive field infrastructure support, managing the full lifecycle of physical technology assets including servers, workstations, network and telecoms hardware, and clinical/medical and digital imaging devices.
- Configure, maintain and upgrade digital imaging systems and medical devices, including imaging applications, PACS/DICOM connectivity, and integration with clinical workflows.
- Deliver 3rd line technical support and escalation, providing advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis and on-site intervention for critical incidents.
- Support server, workstation, rack, power and cooling infrastructure, including installation, maintenance, upgrades and evergreen refresh programmes.
- Manage IMAC activity, new site onboarding, legacy site decommissioning and infrastructure support for expansion projects, delivered to agreed SLAs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and third-party vendors to ensure secure, compliant and reliable infrastructure operations.
- Ensure infrastructure meets security, compliance and audit requirements, including access controls and secure device onboarding.
- Support lifecycle management and continuous improvement of infrastructure services across UK sites, coordinating remote hands for non-UK locations.
Skills/Experience
- Degree in Engineering, IT, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNP, MCSE) and experience across core infrastructure, networking, servers, workstations, racks/cabinets, and site technology
- Experience with digital imaging or medical IoT devices highly desirable
- Strong understanding of core network services (DHCP, IP, DNS) and advanced troubleshooting/root cause analysis for escalations
- Knowledge of ITIL-based incident and problem management, regulatory compliance, and vendor/stakeholder coordination
- Field engineering experience, including travel, site access, and safety awareness
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with strong communication and interpersonal skills
