Job description

Infrastructure Field Engineer (5049)

We’re looking for an Infrastructure Field Engineer!

The role:

As the Field Engineer you will provide support in the field to the integration process of new practices into the Bupa Dental Care network. This will involve the setting up of IT equipment at the practice, QA control of all equipment and workstations to ensure they fit the corporate standard and working with the project manager and practice staff to ensure a smooth transition from the old systems over to the new. Secondary to this, the Field Engineering team provide support to practices where such support cannot be provided remotely by the IT Service Desk. This will involve on-site troubleshooting and fault repair with Practice IT infrastructure and medical digital imagery equipment. Equipment includes servers, workstations, switches and wireless equipment.

The role involves significant travel across the UK and Ireland and as such a company car is provided, although work from home will also feature under the direction of the IT Infrastructure Manager.

Key areas of accountability as an Infrastructure Field Engineer are:

  • Assist in the creation and definition of new and replacement services under the direction of the Head of IT Operations and IT Director to add to the Service Portfolio.
  • Ensure you have a comprehensive understanding of the IT Service Level Agreements so that you know the service levels of each IT Service. Do all that is in your power to ensure the IT Service Levels are met.
  • Ensure you have a comprehensive knowledge of the IT Strategy. The IT Strategy sets the priorities for the IT department in any given year. Ensure you deliver all parts of the IT strategy where you have responsibility for delivery.
  • Ensure that above all other priorities the Service monitoring tools are operational in order to enable the remainder of the team to perform Service Support
  • Diagnose, repair and report on Practice server operating system faults raised by the service desk or by the monitoring systems.  Faults on servers should be fixed as soon as possible without affecting working services.
  • Maintain operation of the IT services as defined in the IT service level agreement – when a service fails, the primary aim is to restore service, not necessarily fix the server causing the problem.
  • Repair and report on faults on servers, operating systems and Practice infrastructure raised by the monitoring platforms or through the service desk.
  • Diagnose, repair and report on physical hardware faults and operating system faults escalated through the service desk in your capacity as the field element of the IT Services Team.
  • Provide IT management with a regular update of your project work, progress and delivery timeframes.
