The Role

As Head of Sustainability, you’ll create the conditions for sustainable growth by driving awareness, influencing change, and delivering against our Planet Health ambitions. You’ll lead the development and delivery of a multi‑year sustainability strategy, embedding sustainable practices and measurable outcomes across the business.

With the support of a Sustainability Specialist, you’ll help deliver our Net Zero commitments, accelerate sustainable dentistry, and strengthen Bupa Dental Care’s role as a trusted and valued partner in our local communities, working closely with the Bupa Dental Foundation. In doing so, you’ll ensure colleagues and stakeholders are engaged and brought with us on the journey.

What will I be doing?

• Shape and lead a multi-year strategic sustainability plan for Bupa Dental Care, identifying and delivering initiatives and improvements that with help meet our Planet Health ambition.
• Lead and maintain an active community across our organisation to educate, share ideas, foster innovation and lead the change in behaviours that will result in more effective integration of sustainable practices.
• Oversight of Bupa Dental Care’s progress, including close working with other parts of Bupa Global & UK (BGUK) and Bupa Group.
• Pro-actively monitor national legislation related to environmental and social issues as well as Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) disclosure requirements, liaising closely with BGUK Finance to support BDC’s non-financial disclosure requirements and BDC Head of Risk & Compliance to assess climate risk.
• Work closely with various teams to create and share compelling stories, amplifying Planet Health and developing narratives and communication assets.
• Advise on internal and external sustainability communications, ensuring understanding and alignment with business priorities to leverage and capitalise on mutual interests.
• Lead all BDC Planet Health cross-functional forums and working groups, and drive governance & reporting for the BDC Planet Health Steering Group and BDC reporting into various BGUK sustainability committees and forums.
• Be the main point of sustainability contact and spokesperson with all related internal and external parties, including practices, laboratories, support functions, BGUK and Bupa Group teams, suppliers, industry groups, and other third-party partners.
• Line management responsibility for the Sustainability Specialist, providing direction, support and development.

Skills/Experience

• 5+ years' sustainability / ESG experience working within medium to large organisations.
• Strong external credibility, with a broad network
• Proven experience of driving collaboration and innovation across internal stakeholders, suppliers, and industry groups
• Experience in designing, assessing and delivering best-practice sustainability initiatives
• Literate in core sustainability metrics, understanding measurement and reporting of KPIs
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to work across teams to deliver holistic and mutually beneficial results
• Ability to strike the right balance between sustainability and business objectives / funding to provide pragmatic options and solutions
• Confidence and experience in working at all levels, from front-line teams to senior executives
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple internal and external stakeholders / bodies
• Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills with a proven ability to bridge knowledge gaps
• Strong communication skills, excellent at writing and storytelling
